What You Need to Know About Tires and Cold Weather

If you are moving to a colder climate, there are some things you should know about your car’s tires.  You need to know what type of tire to get for the weather.  You also need to know a bit about keeping your car moving.

In northern states, you might want to look into buying snow tires.  Some people even use studded snow tires with metal studs to grip the road better.  Studded snow tires help your car stay on course on snow-packed roads.  However, they should not, and usually cannot legally, be used when the roads are clear.  This means you have to put them on and take them off frequently.

For states that have a little less bad weather, all season radials work fine.  In many states, having these tires on your car allows you to meet snow ordinance regulations.  In other words, if you are caught driving inadequate tires in bad conditions, you could get a ticket.  Good all season radials are considered to be fine.

Another thing to know about tires and cold weather is how the tires react to slick surfaces.  If your car gets stuck on some snow, it is best not to give the car too much gas.  This will heat the tire up.  The less power you use, the better off you are on slick roads.  For more information on car rental in Charlotte, NC, visit Triangle Rent A Car today!
