Television viewers have recently been inundated with shows about the heavy, the obese, the morbidly and super morbidly obese. As America gets fatter and fatter, we seem to relish shows about bed-ridden individuals who have to be removed from their homes by a team of firefighters. As we watch in fascination, with greasy potato chip fingers and ice cream on our chins, our ever expanding waistlines don’t seem as bad. After all, we can still walk. Just think: if every one just tried to learn how to lose 40 pounds in a month, maybe we would stop being the laughing stock of Europe.
