Take note that gum disease is caused by bacterial plaque. The sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth constantly is called plaque. Gums can be damaged because these bacteria creates toxins. Always remember that good oral hygiene is the best way to be able to prevent bleeding gums, reversible gingivitis and dangerous periodontitis.
