To most people, fencing gear consists of a sword, uniform and mask.
But I just learned that there are three types of swords used in fencing - the epee, foil, and sabre.
The two most common swords are the epee and the foil. The sabre differs in that it is also a cutting sword as well as thrusting.
Part of the attraction of fencing is its grace and style - and very stylized procedures and scoring. Fencing is something of a gentleman’s sport, really.
